Cousette
Copeland - Alyne Hazard - Malyne Hazard Halloween and Day of the Dead 2006
Witches Ball 2004 So what do three 51-yr old best friends do on a rainy Sat. night in October? Why go to the Witches Ball, of course! A fundraiser for the Humane Society was an exotic venue for Alyne's bellydance troupe to perform, and for all of us to dress up, make-up, and dance the night away! Malyne had the most "pagan" garb, dressed in dried seaweed from her house, she is the Sea Witch! For more fun with Cousette, go to Latest Photos.
Best Friends since 1971!

Three has never been a crowd for Cousette Copeland and the Hazard twins, Alyne and Malyne. They've been best friends for 30 years and can already imagine themselves ``as old ladies some day, sitting on a porch, all in a row, rocking away and laughing over the many happy memories of long friendship,'' said Copeland, a technical writer and consultant who lives in Santa Clara. The twins, who live in San Jose, and Copeland will all turn 51 in July. Their friendship began at San Jose State University. ``On the first day of college, at 7:30 a.m., I sat nervously in a beginning Japanese class,'' Copeland said. ``I turned to the girl sitting next to me and asked, `Can I borrow a piece of paper?' She frowned but handed me a piece of paper. Then I asked, `Can I borrow a pencil?' ``I was the first in my family to go to college. The girl next to me, Alyne, was the daughter of a college professor and noted military scholar. A year later, I was puzzled to see her in my zoology class when I knew Alyne was a history major. It was Malyne, Alyne's twin!'' The trio has shared three decades of ``a lot'' -- a lot of food, a lot of travel, a lot of art and a lot of eclectic interests. Alyne Hazard, an international patent-law expert, and Malyne Hazard, who works in wholesale flower sales, became world champions in the Japanese martial art of kendo; Copeland became a kendo groupie. ``When the doldrums hit, we say, `Let's make a B movie, let's do a ghost hunt,' '' Malyne Hazard said. ``Life is theater.'' And it's a lot more fun with three. -- Linda Goldston

Alyne and Malyne's birthday inspired me to create twin Assemblage projects. Read more about our Best Friendship. Here we are at the Fontana restaurant fountain after the twins' birthday lunch. We have to start planning a 2005 trip to visit England, Ireland, Orkney/Scotland, Italy, and who knows where else!
I painted two panels with acrylic glazes. I began building the figures out of jewelry findings, beads, and rhinestones. I embellished the figures with glitter washes and swirls. I placed the panels in shadow boxes so that Alyne and Malyne could continue to build on their assemblage with their own art, photos, figures, and trinkets! |
